Symposium of Women and Sustainable Development

Theme:New Era, New Women: China's Action on Sustainable Development
Time:  October 19 14:00-19 17:00,2018
Room:301

On September 25, 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit was held at its headquarter in New York, where the 193 member states officially adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The goals aim to completely solve the developmental problems of the social, economic and environmental dimensions from 2015 to 2030 in an integrated manner, turning the world to the path of sustainable development. The goals will guide global development policies and the use of funds from 2015 to 2030. The goals have made a historic commitment: the primary goal is to eradicate poverty forever in every corner of the world. China attaches great importance to this summit and has been promoting substantive progress for the sustainable development agenda from all aspects. On June 3, 2014, the United Nations Development Programme Office in China and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a seminar on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, which discussed the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and the ongoing process of setting the new agenda. On July 24, 2015, the Report on China's Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (2000-2015), co-authored by the Chinese government and the United Nations in China, was officially released. On the same day, the UNDP representative office in China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs co-sponsored the International Conference on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, where they discussed issues of the new agenda, and focused on China's role in the post-2015 development summit and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the above-mentioned 17 development goals of the UN, gender equality is an important one. Meanwhile, more than ten other goals are widely related to environmental protection, healthy lifestyles, quality education, poverty eradication, hunger elimination, clean energy, etc., the realization of which cannot be divorced from the broad and effective participation of women.

The Symposium of “Women and Sustainable Development” is jointly hosted by China Education Association for International Exchange and Renmin University of China. Under the background of General Secretary Xi Jinping's advocacy of establishing a "a community of common destiny for all mankind", it is more than meaningful that the forces of all parties be gathered here to spread China's efforts and achievements in the area of women and sustainable development, and to share the experiences and wisdoms of every country and every annual conference on the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
